2024 Oral behaviour during riding is associated with oral lesions in dressage horses – A field study

“We conclude that a high frequency of mouth opening is associated to the occurrence of oral lesions. Both oral behaviour and lesions are indicators of problems related to training and equipment use, where mouth opening can be regarded as an acute indicator and oral lesions as an indicator of problems over a period of time leading up to the inspection”.
