Dr Charis Green – Beyond the Clinic Room

Dr Charis Green is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, and Equine Assisted Therapist who specialises in trauma informed care. She has 10 years experience in working within the field of mental health in the NHS, and specialises in working with experiences of developmental and attachment trauma. Charis brings together equine assisted psychotherapy principles along with traditional clinic based talking therapies, adapted for working alongside horses. Charis is particularly interested in trauma focused therapy, and Equine-Assisted Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Charis believes strongly that within equine assisted in therapy, horses are partners in therapy, not therapy tools, and in equally prioritising providing safety and choice for clients and horses.

The service is underpinned by a LIMA framework, with priority given to meeting the physical and emotional needs of the horses both within and in between sessions. Relationships between horses and humans are collaborative, with the aim of modelling relationships based on trust, understanding and compassion, rather than one of force and coercion.
